Three parts work together:

  • The acrylic panel. Acrylic is a clear, rigid plastic that lets light through very well, which is why it's used for signs and display panels. It gives the artwork depth and a glass-like shine without the weight or fragility of glass.
  • The printed artwork. The design is printed on high-quality acrylic, so the colour sits right in the path of the light.
  • The frame and lighting. A slim composite frame holds the panel and the lighting. It comes in Black or Brown.

How edge lighting works

There are two broad ways to light a panel from inside a frame. Backlit panels put LEDs across the back, facing forward, which needs a deep box behind the art. Edge-lit panels put LEDs along the sides. The light travels sideways through the panel and spreads across the surface. Edge lighting is what makes slim, low-profile frames possible, because the light doesn't need depth behind the image to spread out.
