What Is a Metal Poster? How Metal Wall Art Is Made and Why It Lasts
Share
A metal poster is artwork printed directly onto a thin, rigid sheet of aluminium. There's no paper, no canvas and no glass in front of the image. The print is the panel. That sounds like a small detail, but it changes how the art looks, how long it lasts and how easy it is to hang.
In this guide
Below we cover how metal posters are made, why they hold up so well, and how to choose and mount one.
What a metal poster is made of
The base is an aluminium sheet with a special coating on the front. That coating is what holds the ink. Aluminium is light, flat and stiff, so the panel stays straight on the wall without any frame behind it.
Every Artofied metal poster is printed on rigid coated aluminium and ships unframed. Take a design like Triangle in the Rings or Sunburst Over Water: what arrives is one finished panel, ready for the wall.
How metal posters are printed
Across the print industry, there are two common ways to put an image onto aluminium.
Dye sublimation
The image is printed in reverse onto transfer paper with dye inks. The paper is laid face down on a coated aluminium panel and pressed under high heat. At that temperature the ink turns into a gas and bonds into the coating rather than sitting on top of it. Once the panel cools, the picture is part of the surface. That's why sublimated metal prints are known for rich colour and a tough, wipeable finish.
Direct UV printing
A flatbed printer sprays tiny droplets of UV-curable ink onto the metal, and UV lamps harden each layer as soon as it lands. Many printers lay down a white base first so colours stay bright against the metal.
Either way, the work starts with a high-resolution digital file, prepared and colour-checked for the exact panel size before anything is printed.
Why metal wall art lasts
- It handles moisture. There's no paper to curl, ripple or stain, so metal copes well with humid or hot weather.
- It resists scratches. The coated surface takes everyday handling far better than a paper print.
- It's easy to clean. A soft, dry cloth is all you need. With no glass, there's no glare to polish and nothing to break.
- It stays flat. Rigid aluminium doesn't sag or warp the way stretched canvas can.
How to mount a metal poster
Because the panel is light and rigid, a metal poster mounts flat against the wall with double-sided tape on the back. No nails, no hooks, no drilling, and no hardware on show.
- Pick the spot. Hold the poster up, or tape a sheet of paper the same size to the wall, then step back and check the height.
- Clean the wall. Wipe the area and let it dry completely. Tape grips best on a smooth, clean, dry surface.
- Add the tape. Stick double-sided tape on the back of the panel near each corner and along the middle.
- Press it on. Line up the top edge, press the poster onto the wall, and hold firm pressure across the whole panel for a few seconds.
For the strongest hold, wait until fresh paint has fully cured, and skip damp, dusty or heavily textured walls.
Which designs suit metal best
Metal gives artwork a crisp finish. Fine lines stay sharp and colour reads with real punch, so it suits bold geometric art, star fields and night skies, and vivid abstract art. Pieces like Kaleidoscope Bloom and Milky Way Over the Minarets are good examples. Patriotic designs such as Pakistan, Beyond the Stars from our maps of Pakistan also work well on metal.
Choosing your metal poster
- Size. Artofied metal posters come in sizes from 10 x 8 inches up to 20 x 20 inches. Measure the wall first and leave some space around the piece.
- Framed or unframed. An unframed panel looks modern and clean at the edges. If you'd like a border, read our guide to framed vs unframed metal posters.
- Theme. Start with a theme you love, like Islamic art or scenic and nature art, then pick the format.
About Artofied
Artofied is a Pakistan-based wall art brand serving customers across Pakistan, KSA and the UAE. Every design shows a non-living subject, such as landscapes, architecture, geometry, calligraphy and abstract forms, and every piece is made to order. Most designs come in several formats, so you can see the same artwork as a metal poster, a framed metal poster, an acrylic glowing frame or an LED wall lamp. Our wall art materials guide puts them all side by side.
Frequently asked questions
Does a metal poster need a frame?
No. It's printed directly on rigid coated aluminium, so it hangs as a finished piece on its own. A framed version is available if you'd like a border.
How do I hang a metal poster?
It mounts with double-sided tape on the back, so you don't need to drill or use nails. Clean and dry the wall, position the poster, then press it firmly in place.
Is a metal poster waterproof?
The aluminium surface resists moisture and won't soak up water the way paper does, so it handles humidity well. Like any artwork, keep it away from direct water.
How do I clean a metal poster?
Wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid scrubbing pads and harsh chemicals.
What sizes are available?
Artofied metal posters come in sizes from 10 x 8 inches up to 20 x 20 inches, made to order in the size you pick.
